The Bourne Legacy is an upcoming 2012 American action thriller and the fourth installment in the Bourne film series, which is based on Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne novels. It is directed by Tony Gilroy, screenwriter of the first three films and is due to be released on August 8, 2012 in the Philippines, August 10, 2012 in the US and August 13, 2012 in the UK.
The film is very loosely based on The Bourne Legacy, a later Bourne novel written by Eric Van Lustbader, but like the previous three films in the franchise, it has a completely different plot from the source material.

In the wake of Jason Bourne's dismemberment of Operation Blackbriar, the CIA decides to dispose of their other black ops programs, which includes the termination of their field agents. However, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), an agent from Operation Outcome, escapes from being executed and, with the help of an Outcome scientist (Rachel Weisz), sets out to expose the crimes of his superiors.
